Injury report:

Returned to practice:

C Shaun O’Hara (Achilles), TE Travis Beckum (neck) and LB Chase Blackburn (knee) possess returned from injury.

Notes:

Newly acquired QB Sage Rosenfels and WR/KR Darius Reynaud are practicing Monday.

Coach Tom Coughlin said KR/PR Darius Reynaud will be the top punt returner. But Coughlin did not guarantee the former Viking would handle the kick return duties. Reynaud is already one of the Giants’ most versatile players. He has experience at bustle.ing support, wide receiver, kick returner, punt returner and as a gunner on special teams.

Coach Tom Coughlin said there aren’t any modern developments with CB Corey Webster’s injured groin or Phillip Dillard’s injured hamstring. But the coach did notify CB Aaron Ross’ foot is “getting better." Coughlin doesn’t know when Ross will return to practice.

Coach Tom Coughlin is concerned about having only two tight wastes on the roster, but he said, "There are two practice squad tight razes that are accurate an up/down away." TE Gain Pascoe and TE Jake Ballard were signed to the practice squad Sunday. He said the bigger concern at the tight demolish is Travis Beckum’s health. Beckum, who is Old primarily as a receiver and rarely blocks, had been dealing with a neck strain before returning to practice Monday.

LB Chase Blackburn (knee) was wait on at practice Monday, but didn’t feel 100 percent. "General soreness," he said. "I got to fade keep some ice on it in a minute." He beliefs on playing in the opener. "No doubt. That’s why I practiced today."

CB Corey Webster (groin) didn’t practice Monday, but one teammate questions him to return soon. "I deem Corey is feeling a lot better," CB Terrell Thomas said. "There was no need to set aside him out there today. Hopefully, he can travel Wednesday."

LB Keith Bulluck is inflamed to challenge Carolina’s rush.ing game. "They believe two 1,000-yard Hurry.ing relieves," he said. "It’s a considerable test. … The most critical thing for a defense is to discontinuance the speed." In 2009, Carolina speeded for 247 yards in the Giants Stadium finale.

C Shaun O’Hara (Achilles) returned to practice Monday. "Today felt fine on a number of different level," he said. "It’s Right been frustrating. At one point it would feel fancy it was getting better and at one point it would grasp a different turn."

QB Sage Rosenfels is relieved to be away from the Brett Favre saga. "You’re impartial jubilant to know what the space is disappearing to be," he said. "Everything was sort of up in the air for really the whole time I was there." Rosenfels received the playbook Saturday. He said: "There’s no excuse to not be ready," he said. "I met with (quarterbacks) coach (Mike) Sullivan a dinky bit, and I’ve been trying to peek as considerable as I can by myself."

Upon making the Giants, rookie WR Duke Calhoun had his roommate, practice squad DB Seth Williams, sever off his dreadlocks. Calhoun, who had been growing his hair since the ninth grade, had as many as 10 teams Eager in him after he went undrafted.

Game 138. Which AJ carry out we secure today

As the playoffs plot advance (and the Yanks, barring a much collapse, are destined to be in the playoffs; but as what, division champ or wild card, we do not know), solidifying the rotation is a must. Which is why AJ’s outing today is principal. The Yanks need more consistency out of their starters as we head into the postseason.

Yesterday, Hughes continued some second-half struggles. Both Nova and Vazquez were pulled after 4 2/3.

Consider this. Not only should CC be mediateed for the CYA, but with the Yankee rotation being a bit shaky, he also merits some top-10 MVP consideration.

Today’s lineup. I’ll bear more on Jeter in a bit. I care for Derek, he is one of the greatest-ever Yankees, the #2 will be retired one day, and he is honest over 100 hits away from hit #3000.

But this offseason will be intelligent after his worst year ever.

Since Jeter was SI’s Sportsman of the Year last year, can we blame SI? Did the Hide jinx strike again, only this time for the WHOLE year?

Does Jeter hold a comeback player of the year in him for 2011? Time will advise. You can not explain me, though, that his pride hasn’t been Hurted. Is he distress, or is the beginning of the slide?

Colin Curtis has been brought up.

Pettitte will rehab in Trenton on Wednesday.

Yankees 86-51. First by 2 1/2. Magic # for Playoffs: 17; For division: 24.
They are even with the Pythagorean portray, meaning they are where they should be.

OPS+ 118, ERA+ 103. This Slow into the season, do not request those numbers to change remarkable.

Derek Jeter SS .264-10-60-15sb/20att; OPS+ 94; 2896 hits. Peek below.
Slit Swisher RF .294-25-80-1/3; 142; serve in there
Ticket Teixeira 1B .266-30-99-0/1; 141; #100 today, Imprint??
Alex Rodriguez 3B .266-21-98-4/7; 122; Ditto, Alex?
Robinson Cano 2B .319-26-93-2/4; 153; too remarkable to seek information from. Later this week?
Marcus Thames LF .302-11-30-0/0; 147
Jorge Posada DH .264-17-52-3/3; 135 with 5 straight day games…
Francisco Cervelli C .255-0-32-1/2; 80
Brett Gardner CF .287-5-44-40/47; 117 They’d never tumble Jeter to here, but would the Yanks be better off if Gardner was leading off and Jeter #9 factual now? Not with a lefty on the mound today, but seek at the average, race, OPS…. if this was someone else, not a fable named Jeter, it may possess happened already.

A. J. Burnett RHP 10-12, 5.15 ERA+ 77

On Jeter:

Truthfully, he should be hitting 7th or lower, but that could disrupt clubhouse chemistry and be a blow to the Captain’s pride. Or, if he is batting 2nd, more hit-and-Hurrys with Gardner, more bunts. .154 over his last 20 games. Fifty points below his career average. The frightful numbers: Last 7 days, .150; Last 14 days, .109; Last 28 days, .196; Hitting .240 vs. RHP, .315 vs. lefties. Since 5/31, upright .239. Search For at that last stat again. In over three months, factual .239-5-29. Factual two HR since 6/12, and one was an inside-the-parker. The numbers are gross, and getting uglier. You upright wonder if he can unbiased turn it around for a few games in October.

Remember, the postseason Begins a current season. Nothing in the regular season matters then. It’s a current slate. You can erase a unpleasant season with a mighty postseason, and as some A-Rod performances of the past note, you can erase a superior season with a Awful postseason. What October 2010 memories can Derek provide?

This last offseason, I commented on maybe the Yanks should travel after Thome on a one-year deal for DH. Instead, they went for Cleave Johnson, now maintain Berkman (and Thames). Some didn’t want Thome. Well, Thome on a one-year deal (and that swing is MADE for the Stadium) could acquire worked out well. 20 HR, and he honest passed Huge Mac on the all-time list. I wonder what if… you could maintain platooned him and Thames at DH. Factual recounting.

Nearly gametime. Radio/ some yardwork. Game exhibits in a unique post. …

Report: Rosenfels, Reynaud Pass Physicals

Via The Star-Ledger, the trade with Minnesota to maintain backup QB Sage Rosenfels and return specialist Darius Reynaud is now complete.

"The timing of this travel was outstanding in terms of our ability to solve a couple of scrapes and fade forward," coach Tom Coughlin said in a team recents release.

Rosenfels allows the Giants to enter the season with an experienced backup quarterback, a principal need deeming the team had no other player on its roster who attempted a pass in a regular-season game.

Coughlin said the team had been eyeing Reynaud "for a while" and seek information froms the 25-year-worn West Virginia product to return both punts and kickoffs for the Giants. Reynaud will play wide receiver in emergency plots and learn two or three running plays to contribute on offense.

"Darius is a very versatile player as he can play wide receiver, running support and be a conceal specialist on teams," general manager Jerry Reese said.

"But the biggest need he fills for us TRUE away is to give us some pop as a return specialist."

The Giants tried to trade DE Dave Tollefson and LT Guy Whimper, according to someone notifyed of the team’s trade talks who demanded anonymity because those discussions were to remain private. Obviously, they didn’t acquire a suitor.

Tollefson was kept on the roster while Whimper, a 2006 fourth-round hold, was released.

Game 136. Marcus has the upright "thame(s)"ing, his HR gives Yanks 8th straight Take, 7-5. PSU seizes 44-14.

My attention will be divided this afternoon. Radio on to the Yankees. TV on (with restful on) to Penn State/Youngstown St. Ok, I know what you are thinking: Youngstown St. But next week the Nittany Lions bear Alabama, and PSU is originateing a accurate frosh QB today. I’d worship to gaze how he accomplishes before being thrown to a CRIMSON TIDE of wolves.

Wonder who PSU will contain as their mascot. Youth being youth, the mascot got caught recently with an underage DUI.

PSU is my alma mater, hence the interest.

On to the Yankees. LoHud’s represent on Andy Pettitte’s simulated game today seems encouraging, and A-Rod hit, recedeing 2 for 5, both singles.

I wonder when Yankees pitchers will inaugurate taking BP. Probably too early now, but remember that the NL has WS advantage this year for the first time in a long time. The relievers wouldn’t hit too Great if that scenario advances to pass, but how are the starters?

CC: .258-3-14 in 97 AB. OPS+ 70. Not unpleasant at all.
AJ: . 131-3-9 in 267 AB. OPS+ 1.
Andy: .137-1-13 in 190 AB. OPS+ (-10).
Hughes: Good 1 MLB at bat.
Vazquez: .206-1-27 in 504 AB (about a fleshy season). OPS+ 27. Respectable enough.

I highly relieve you to read Joel Sherman’s post in the NY Post today regarding Derek Jeter. Very engaging. Remember this: one of the hardest things any manager, owner or GM has to deal with in sports is fading yarns. Remember Yogi Berra as Mets Manager in 1973 trying to deal with a shot Willie Mays?

Swishalicious is relieve today. Nope. Leisurely scratch.

Yanks 85-50, Up by 1 1/2 in the AL East. Magic # for making playoffs: 20.
Dead on Pythagrorean, OPS+ 118, ERA + 104;

Brett Gardner LF .284-5-42-39sb/46att; OPS+ 115. Leading off again. Hmmm… reflection on Derek? 5 triples.
Derek Jeter SS .266-10-59-15/20; 94 ; Watch article above. 2895 hits. 4 for last 39.
Impress Teixeira 1B .268-30-99-0/1; 141; #100 today, after Dull launch, check that OPS.
Robinson Cano 2B .318-26-91-2/4; 153 Only .258 last 28 days. Paining MVP candidacy?
Prick Swisher RF .295-25-80-1/3; 143
Marcus Thames RF .304-10-28-0/0; 148
Lance Berkman DH .244-13-53-3/5; 113 as Yankee, 11 for 46, 0 HR, 4 RBI; time for his first Yankee HR and to heat up.
Curtis Granderson CF .252-17-48-10/12; 113; heating up, .274 last 28 days; 6 triples.
Eduardo Nunez 3B 12 for 39 in mlb career. 1 HR, 7 RBI. 3 SB.
Francisco Cervelli C .251-0-32-1/2; 76

Javier Vazquez RHP 10-9, 4.86 ERA+ 82

Update: 16-7 PSU at the half. The frosh QB has a TD pass and an INT. 13 for 19, 133 yards. Frankly I’m surprised PSU has had the kid throw so distinguished. I conception that they would win the pressure off and expend Royster (9 runes, 30 yards) and Green (2 for 10) more.

Gardner obtains his 40th SB in the first. He becomes the first Yankee to arrive that imprint since Soriano had 41 in 2002.

Vazquez’ bugaboo, the gopher ball, strikes him in the 2nd. He gives up two gopher balls and it’s 3-0 Toronto.

Two superior relief appearances but assist to lousy initiateing again. 3-0 fadeing to the bottom of the 2nd.

In the third, Cervelli doubles, Gardner walks. A double by Jeter brings one in and after a walk to Teix, Cano singles in two. Tied at 3 after 3.

PSU turned it on in the 2nd half. No shocker. 44-14 final. A 100 Yd. kickoff return by Chaz Powell inaugurateed the 2nd half. Bolden injure up 20 for 29, 240, 2 TD and a Take.

Royster correct 11 carries and 40 yards. Green 6 for 32, 1 TD. assist.p QB Kevin Newsome got in but didn’t throw a pass. 3 speedes, 21 yds, 1 TD.

Next week, the genuine test. Alabama.

Back to baseball. the Yanks got two in the 4th to proceed up 5-3. Single by Granderson, and the 2nd double of the game for Cervelli. After a 4-hit game the other day, nice to seek Cervelli’s bat reach alive after a 3-month span in which he hit .175. RBI groundout by Gardner. A WP brought in Cervelli.

…and Vazquez/Moseley give it factual attend. Vazquez gains two outs, but then gives up a walk and a single. As yesterday, Girardi doesn’t mess around. He pulls Vazquez after 4 2/3 as he did Nova. No chance of a “W” for Vazquez. It doesn’t work. Moseley gives up a game-tying double.

Vazquez’ line: 4 2/3, 5 R, 4 H, 4 walks and 6 K. Not exactly a triumphant return to the rotation. ERA to 5.01.

That hit and the out to enact the fifth were it for Moseley. 1/3, 0 R, 1 H, 0 W, 0 K. 4.83.

Logan a 1-2-3 6th, but gives up a hit to Begin the 7th. Joba in. HBP. Two on, no one out. A K of Bautista, who accumulates ejected for arguing the call. Then a DP, with a considerable play by Teixeira on the throw by Cano.

Logan 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 Walks, 1 K. 2.43.

7th inning stretch.

Maybe this is a day for AJ to whip up a pie?

…and maybe not. With two out, Cano singles and Thames hits #11. 7-5 Yankees.

8th. Joba out, Wood in. Joba 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 W, 1 K, a HBP. ERA 4.73 (He got the grasp, 2-4). Golson to RF for defense instead of Thames. Pena for d for Nunez at 3rd. Such is September.

Wood procures a 1-2-3, 1 K. ERA 3.75 overall, 0.56 as a Yankee.

Nothing in the 8th as Pena fetchs CS for the first time this year.

Rivera for the 9th. He gives up a hit, but no accelerates, 2 K. Establish #29 (555) for the Distinguished ONE. ERA plunges to 1.07.

Eight acquires in a row. Boston lost the opener of a doubleheader. Magic # to construct the playoffs? 18. 2 game lead over Tampa. Tampa plays tonight, as concludees Boston in the nightcap of their doubleheader.

8 straight seizes.

Game 136. Toronto at Yanks.

Look Foward or Help

Well, first off, I’ll be proceeding encourage out of town again this weekend (Nation’s Capital) so my posting capabilities will be diminished once again. Seeking as I can not exhaust more than a day away from baseball without feeling worship there is a void in my life, I will try to sneak a post while my friends are sipping (guzzling) dehydrating beverages. How successful I am remains to be seen, but if baseball was a girl (an extremely bangin’ one of course), I’d be the whipped boyfriend that has to sneak off to talk to her. That analogy is a small uncommon since only dudes play MLB, but whatever.

Back to the Yankees. Since I will be heading out of town, I would worship to finish a hasty grasp-up/look ahead post. Let’s fetch to it.

After sweeping the Oakland A’s and taking two out of three in Chicago, the Yankees contain a portray of 84-50 and sit 1.5 games up on the Tampa Bay Rays. The Red Sox are eight games out of first and 6.5 out of the Wild Card. Are they buried yet? Eh, maybe not quite, but the casket is handsome terminate to closing on their 2010 season. CC Sabathia won his 19th game of the season and (knock on wood) seems adore a suited bet to surpass 20 for the first time in his career. The Baby Yankees hold on ballin’. I’ll devote many more words to this in my next (and maybe final of 2010) Farm Represent which will be on the blog before you know it. Andy Pettitte and Alex Rodriguez are toddleing closer to returning to the diamond. Lance Berkman is assist too. A fully healthy lineup is deep, and circular (shout out to Steve Phillips). It also invents the bench a lot stronger. A fully healthy rotation is Fair as primary. The Toronto Blue Jays are next on the docket. They’re really not that suited. They hit a lot of home urges and a couple of their pitchers give the Yankees fits. It’s very frustrating. Section of me would treasure to peek Jose Bautista accumulate beaned for his shenanigans last week. They’re in fourth spot though and the Yankees are on a path to the postseason. They do not need to stoop to the Blue Jays’ level. The Yankees were awarded the claim of Dodger lefty Ted Lilly, but the Dodgers pulled him relieve. I guess they were not keen enough in shedding his salary to let the Yankees hold him. Aged. I wouldn’t want to rely on Lilly too noteworthy down the stretch, but any pitching attend in September is more than welcome. Did you peek Jorge Posada the other night? I judge his fuse TRUE bustles out this time of year and he snaps over something. Last year he got into it with Rod Barajas and one of Toronto’s garbage relief pitchers. This time he’s flipping out on the home plate umpire (rightfully so, perhaps). Maybe he unbiased needs a excellent spazz out before he can score his head attend on straight.

I apologize for what could stay up being a week-long absence. Its tough to bang out posts on the road sometimes, but I will give it a shot. Either way, I’ll be relieve really soon so do not pause tuned.

Giants Choose 20-17

The Giants rallied to seize this one with Duke Calhoun taking a nice 15 yard pass from Rhett Bomar and turning it into a 60 yard TD secure. Then Gartrell Johnson took a called intention to the endzone for the 2 point conversion to fade up by 3 points with minutes left in the game. The Giants defense held, and NY was able to discontinuance things out in style to beat the Patriots at home for the last preseason game.

Second Half Shows

• More front 7 goodness:

- JPP got around the edge to force a cutback on Laurence Maroney, Johnathan Goff came in for the final halt for the loss. The Giants race defense has seeed suitable this preseason to relate the least.

- Jay Alford got pressure and forced an errant throw that was brought in by Jonathan Goff, for the second INT of the game.

• Shawn Andrews single handedly paved the way for DJ Ware to hold up a 4th and 1 attempt… he got so far into the secondary with his blocking that I plan it was a pass play for a second. (not really, but it was grand blocking from the 2 time pro bowler… what a worthy pickup by the Giants BTW)

1st Half Destroys, 1st Team Search Fors Mighty

The acquire is 10-9 Patriots at the half. As I mentioned after the first quarter, the 1st team gazeed outstanding to inaugurate the game. Eli and Kevin Boss Crooked up a couple times, once for a TD on their first drive of the game. Here are the highlights:

• Eli Manning 7-9, 91 yds – touchdown to Kevin Boss. Outstanding.

• Ahmad Bradshaw took 4 carries for 26 yds, not too shabby.

• Hakeem Slashs has been all over the spot, 3 graspes for 33 yards and one accelerate for 15.

• Antrel Rolle intercepted Tom Brady for his second INT for the preseason – mighty to gaze.

• Kenny Phillips has not been tested in his limited snaps, but it’s fine to glance him out there in coverage.

•Michael Boley had a reach sack hurrying off the line with distinguished escape, no one seizeed him up and he got a powerful hit on the QB that forced a field goal attempt.

• Kiwi had a nice sack as well, overall the Giants front 7 has gazeed splendid suited.
